The Ministry of Youth Development, and the Ministry of Labour and Employment have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), to tackle the rising case of unemployment in Nigeria.
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, in a statement on Tuesday, was quoted as saying that the two ministries were collaborating to tackle this pressing issue, as economic success is measured by how effectively unemployment is reduced.
According to him, the ministries are creating pathways for skill development, job placement, and entrepreneurship growth.
He said: “This partnership is focused on action, integrating vocational training, technology, and mentorship to ensure Nigerian youth are equipped with the skills necessary to thrive in today’s competitive economy.”
He added that “Through the Labour Employment and Entrepreneurship Programme and the Nigeria Youth Academy Platform, we are setting a new standard for youth empowerment.”
The minister noted that these initiatives would prepare the youth for available job opportunities and inspire them to become job creators, driving innovation and economic growth across the nation.
On her part, the Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, said her Ministry is focused on strengthening Nigeria’s workforce and expanding job opportunities.
She said: “Through LEEP and the NIYA platform, we are setting new standards for youth empowerment by creating pathways for skill development, job placement, and entrepreneurship growth.”
She stressed that both ministries are committed to advancing employment opportunities, improving working conditions, and fostering a resilient and adaptable workforce.
