Tinubu retains Mele Kyari as NNPC chief

. Names new board members

Contrary to speculations, President Bola Tinubu, yesterday, announced the retention of Mele Kyari as the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the NNPC Limited.

The President also appointed a new Board team for the company, all in a non-executive capacity.

All the appointments are effective from December 1, 2023.

A statement from the Presidential spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, said the appointments are “In compliance with Section 59 (2) of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021.”

The new appointees include:

  • Pius Akinyelure — Non-Executive Board Chairman
  • Umar Isa Ajiya — Chief Financial Officer
  • Ledum Mitee — Non-Executive Director
  • (Musa Tumsa — Non-Executive Director
  • Ghali Muhammad — Non-Executive Director
  • Prof. Mustapha Aliyu — Non-Executive Director 
  • Mr. David Ogbodo — Non-Executive Director
  • Ms. Eunice Thomas — Non-Executive Director

Furthermore, two Permanent Secretaries: Mr. Okokon Ekanem Udo, and Gabriel Aduda were appointed for the Federal Ministries of Finance and Petroleum Resources, respectively.

Mr Tinubu anticipates the fullest measure of compliance with the performance-driven and results-oriented mandate of his Renewed Hope administration in the implementation of energy policy that will monetise all available oil and gas resources of today while paving the way for the total exploitation of new and cleaner energy sources of tomorrow by this distinguished team.
