Technology for gas capturing wins 2024 NLNG Prize for Science

The Nigeria NLNG Limited (NLNG), today announced the “Process Intensification Technology for GreenHouse Gas Emissions Control in Power Generation and Industry for Sustainable Fuel” as winner of this year’s The Nigerian Prize for Science.

The technology, which was produced by Eni Okoh, Oladijo Otitoju, and Prof. Weihang Wang, was selected from 51 other submissions approved by the Prize’s Advisory Board.

The winners will cart away $100,000 to boost their research efforts.

This year’s prize focused on Innovation and Science for Reducing Climate Change and will be directly beneficial in reducing Nigeria’s carbon footprint.

Announcing the prize winner in Lagos, Chairman of the Prize’s Advisory Board, Prof. Berth Nnaji, noted that the prize has been sustained over the years through dedication and integrity.

This year’s prize focused on Innovation and Science for Reducing Climate Change and will be directly beneficial in reducing Nigeria’s carbon footprint.

NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Management Andy Odeh, thanked all the stakeholders who have helped in sustaining the prize for 20 years.

He noted that the prize would not have lasted this long without the caliber of persons in the Advisory Board and the Panel of Judges.

A member of the Advisory Board, Nike Akande, urged the media to continue its advocacy about the relevance of innovations to Nigeria’s environment and economy.

According to the NLNG, “The Nigeria Prize for Science celebrates excellence in scientific breakthroughs and honours scientists from anywhere in the world who help find solutions to a local or ‘Nigerian’ problem as defined and advertised by the Advisory Board for the prize.” 

The Prize is an annual prize aimed at stimulating the advancement and application of science and technology. 

It is expected that the quest for a prestigious prize in science will improve science and technology in Nigeria, resolve issues that are germane to development of the country and help improve the standards of living.
