The Centre for Transparency Advocacy (CTA) has called for high-impact resolutions to reduce the impact of fuel subsidy removal on the common Nigerians.
The Centre believes that while dialogue continues between the federal government, the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), parties can identify low hanging fruits that can immediately provide some succour.
In a statement today, CTA Executive Director, Faith Nwadishi, argued that such low-hanging and high-impact resolutions are necessary to address the immediate concerns of Nigerians and ensure a smoother transition away from the fuel subsidy regime.
This, she said, is expedient seeing as these resolutions between the government and organised labour “are very long termed.”
She said: “The resolution, which establishes a joint committee, aims to review proposals for wage increases or awards and assess other demands submitted by the TUC to the federal government.
“Additionally, the resolution emphasizes the need to review the World Bank financed Cash Transfer Scheme, revive the Compressed natural Gas (CNG) Conversion program, address challenges in the education sector, establish a framework for the rehabilitation of refineries, and provide a comprehensive framework for road maintenance and rail network expansion.
