Pension fund assets soar to N14.99trn

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has put Nigeria’s pension fund assets at N14.99 trillion as of December 31, 2022, the equivalent of $33.42 billion at N448.55 to $1.

This represents an increase of N1.5 trillion (11.7%) above the N13.42 trillion recorded in 2021.

PenCom in its report on pension industry portfolio for the period ended December 31, 2022, also said the number of Retirement Savings Account (RSA) registrations rose by 333,002 to stand at 9.86 million.

The report said that 64.33% of the assets or N9.64 trillion was invested in Federal Government Securities, mostly FBN bonds (N9.22 trillion).

Other highlights

Other investment highlights include:

  • State securities, N166.14 billion,
  • Corporate debt securities, N1.66 trillion (75.99%),
  • Money market instrument N1.98 trillion (-2.07%),
  • Real Estate, N60.81 billion
  • Existing scheme N1.48 trillion
  • Closed pension fund administrators N1.57 trillion

While Fund I stood at N74.229 trillion, Fund II stood at N6.5 trillion, presenting an increase of N621.98 billion compared to N5.88 trillion recorded as of December 2021.

The Fund III category advanced by N606.74 billion to stand at N4.15 trillion; Fund IV N1.19 trillion; Fund V N374.94 million; Fund VI N32.26 billion; and Fund VI retiree N33.94 billion.

The number of Retirement Savings Account (RSA) registrations rose by 333,002 to stand at 9.86 million.
