The Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) has invited the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to a virtual meeting today over issues relating to the new naira notes introduced by the apex bank.

In a statement by the Head, Media and Public Affairs, NFG Secretariat, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, on Tuesday other issues on the agenda include CBN’s new policy on cash withdrawal.

He said the meeting, which is at the instance of the NGF Chairman, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, would commence at 9a.m. prompt.

He added that the agenda of the virtual meeting is titled: “The Economic and Security implications of naira redesign and withdrawal policy.”

The Forum also said “The discussion promises to foster participation and dialogue between various stakeholders, including governments and civil society organizations to come out with a solution to the lingering issue.”

On October 26, 2022, the CBN announced plans to redesign some denominations of the Naira, including the 1000, 500, and 200 notes which are already in circulation, and set January 31, for the final withdrawal of the old notes as legal tender.

The discussion promises to foster participation and dialogue between various stakeholders, including governments and civil society organizations to come out with a solution to the lingering issue.
