NAFDAC seeks security agencies’ partnership to rid South-East of sub-standard drugs

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Monday in Enugu sought the partnership of security agencies to rid the Southeast geopolitical zone of sub-standard, unwholesome and unregistered foods and drugs.

NAFDAC’s Southeast Zonal Director, Martins Iluyomade, sought the partnership when he paid a familiarisation visit to the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Kanayo Uzuegbu.

Mr Iluyomade said his visit was to strengthen the existing relationship between NAFDAC and the Nigeria Police, and to build stronger synergy.

He noted that the police remained a crucial partner for NAFDAC to effectively enforce its food and drugs administration and control mandate.

“The purpose of the visit is to seek the cooperation and synergy of the police to ensure a smooth working relationship in the state,” he said.

Responding, the commissioner assured of the readiness of the police to provide full support for NAFDAC to discharge its functions.

“We will continue to provide NAFDAC with all necessary support and resources to ensure it executes its mandate in the state,” he assured.

In a related development, Mr Iluyomade made a similar familiarisation visit to the Commander of the NDLEA in Enugu State, Chinyere Olugu.

He recalled the age-long relationship between NAFDAC and the NDLEA and how they had worked together in the past.

“We want to strengthen the age-long relationship as well as do more in terms of information sharing to rid the Southeast of unwholesome products,” he said.

Responding, Ms Olugu promised to collaborate with NAFDAC in its efforts to sanitise Nigerian markets and society of unwholesome products.
