Senate confirms Bello as RMAFC Chairman

.Receives request for confirmation of CBN directors

The Senate yesterday confirmed Mohammed Bello as Chairman, Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

Bello’s confirmation follows the consideration of a report by the Chairman, Senate Committee on National Planning and Economic Affairs, Olubunmi Adetunmbi.

Adetunmbi said from the available documents and the presentation made to the Committee, the nominee satisfied the requirement for appointment as the chairman of the Commission.

He added that, “the nominee is very well experienced and adequately exposed at the top levels of government administration and has acquired the capacity to function as chairman.”

Adetunmbi disclosed that there were no petitions against the nominee and no objections raised by the senators from his state of origin against his nomination.

“The nominee is proper and fit to occupy the office of the Chairman in the Commission,” the lawmaker said.

The nominee is very well experienced and adequately exposed at the top levels of government administration and has acquired the capacity to function as chairman.

Meanwhile, the Senate also received a request from President Muhammadu Buhari, seeking the screening and confirmation for the reappointment of four nominees as non-executive directors of the Board of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).   

The request was contained in a letter dated 21st July, 2022, and read on the floor of the Chamber during plenary session by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.

The President, in the letter said that the request to confirm the nominees was made in accordance with Section 10 (3) (a) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2007.

The Nominees include: Prof. Mike Idiahi Obadan (South South); Prof. Justitia Odinakachukwu Nnabuko (South East); Prof. Ummu Ahmed Jalingo (North East); and Adeola Adetunji (South West).
