NRC generate N1.5bn in Q4 2022, says NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), says the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) generated about N1.15 billion from passengers in the fourth quarter of (Q4) 2022.

This represents a 39.54% drop compared to the same period of 2021 which recorded N1.91 billion.

This is contained in the NBS Rail Transportation Data for Q3 and Q4 2022 released in Abuja yesterday.

The report said revenue generated from goods in Q4 2022 was N157.23 million, which was 63.56% higher compared to the N96.13 million reported a year ago.

It said other income receipts during the quarter stood at N382.17 million, an increase of 3,316.18% to the N11.19 million recorded in Q4 2021.

Also, the number of passengers rose by 30.10% to 1.34 million persons from the 1.03 million persons recorded year-on-year.

However, the volume of goods transported fell by 1.50% in Q4 2022.

For the third quarter, the report showed the Corporation generated about N715.09 million in revenue from passengers.

The figure dropped by 60.52% compared to the N1.81 billion generated in the same period of 2021.

Also, it showed that N101.84 million was collected during the period in review as revenue from goods/cargos, but is a 7.04% drop from the N109.56 million generated in Q3 2021.

Other receipts grew by 707.31% in Q3 2022 from the N14.61 million recorded in Q3 2021”.

However, the number of rail transport passengers in Q3 2022 dropped to 500,348.

“This is lower than the 696,841 recorded in Q3 2021, representing a growth rate of -28.20 per cent,” the report said.

Additionally, about 33,312 tonnes of goods were transported in Q3 2022, compared to 51,726 tonnes reported year-on-year.
