NLNG, Rivers State renew commitment to healthcare, infrastructure dev’t

The Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) and the Rivers State Government have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing healthcare and infrastructure development in the state.

The commitment was emphasized during a courtesy visit made by NLNG’s Executive Management, led by the Managing Director and Chief Executive, Dr. Philip Mshelbila, and his deputy, Olalekan Ogunleye, to the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.

NLNG also expressed its continuous support for the state through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, aimed at achieving sustainable development objectives.

Mshelbila highlighted NLNG’s ongoing commitment to Rivers State, citing various projects, including the 38-kilometer Bonny-Bodo Road.

He noted that the completion of this road project by the first quarter of 2024, will unlock numerous developmental opportunities, transform the socio-economic landscape, and improve the lives of people in the state.

He said: “In Rivers State, we have a strong rationale to invest in health, education, infrastructure development, and empowerment, which are NLNG’s CSR pillars, to support sustainable development.

“NLNG considers itself a corporate citizen of Rivers State, not only because of its location here but also because of its commitment to the long-term development of the state and its people.

“We value the support and favorable environment provided by the State Government and the people of Rivers, and we aim to contribute in the best possible way to the state’s progress.”

In the healthcare sector, Mshelbila noted that the completion of the Infectious Disease Unit at Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), will play a crucial role in fighting infectious diseases and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

NLNG also pledged to equip the Renal Transplant Centre at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital as part of its Hospital Support Programme, aimed at enhancing medical facilities across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones.

In addition to healthcare initiatives, he said NLNG has established the Bonny Community Health Insurance Programme (BCHIP) in partnership with the Rivers State Government and Bonny Kingdom, which aims to make healthcare services more accessible and affordable for the indigenes.

Mshelbila reiterated NLNG’s commitment to collaborating with the Rivers State Government to improve the lives of its residents.

Responding, Governor Fubara, commended NLNG for its efforts in the State and urged it to do more in the area of CSR , while also pledging the government’s support to ensure that it continues to carry out  its operations without disruptions.
