Lagos extends Okada ban to four more council areas

The Lagos State Government yesterday extended the ban on the operations of commercial motorcyclists (Okada) to four more local government areas (LGAs) in the state, effective September 1.

The newly affected LGAs and Local Council Development Areas (LDCAs) include: Kosofe Local Government; Ikosi-Isherri LCDA, Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Oshodi-Isolo Local Government; Isolo LCDA, Shomolu Local Government; Bariga LCDA, Mushin Local Government; Odi-Olowo LCDA.

The State Commissioner for Transport, Frederic Oladeinde, who made the announcement, explained that the government extended the ban in the best interest of residents and for security reasons.

Recall that in May, the State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, placed a total ban on commercial motorcycles in six LGAs, which took effect on June 1.

In compliance with the directive, security operatives impounded several motorcycles seized from operators in restricted areas.
