To make commuting easier and more affordable, MoMo Payment Service Bank (MoMo PSB), in partnership with Ogata Electric Vehicles, has introduced ₦10 bus rides for all the University of Lagos (UNILAG) students this semester.
This subsidised transport scheme is part of MoMo PSB’s ongoing commitment to improving student life, reducing daily stress factors, and making essential services more accessible to young Nigerians.
“Students already navigate the pressure of academics, projects, and extracurricular activities. Transport shouldn’t be another burden, and this is what makes the ₦10 initiative a welcome intervention as the new semester begins,” said Phrase Lubega, CEO, MoMo PSB.
The process is simple and fully digital; Students pay the usual ₦100 fare from their MoMo account by transfer or QR into Ogata Transport MoMo account which is available at the bus stop and MoMo PSB instantly refunds ₦90 as cashback, making the ride only ₦10.
The subsidy applies to the most frequently used routes: Main Gate to Campus and Campus back to Main Gate, ensuring that students enjoy maximum relief where it matters most.
Many have already described the intervention as timely, impactful, and a major boost to punctuality, comfort, and energy levels, especially under Lagos’ intense sunshine.
For MoMo PSB, this initiative goes beyond making transportation more affordable for UNILAG students. By leveraging Ogata’s existing electric vehicles for the subsidy program, MoMo PSB is taking steps toward a greener future at UNILAG by supporting the use of electric vehicles for student transportation.
This helps lower emissions, contributing to a cleaner, quieter campus environment while also promoting environmental sustainability.
As a payment service bank by MTN, MoMo PSB provides simple and secure financial services for millions of Nigerians, from local and international transfers to savings, card services, bills, airtime, data, and secure wallet solutions.
This partnership with Ogata Transport extends that mission by embedding financial convenience into students’ everyday routine.
Ogata Transport reports that the digital payment process has also improved operations, reducing cash handling, enhancing terminal organisation, and ensuring a more reliable flow of buses throughout the day.
“This collaboration brings meaningful benefits to the students. Through this partnership, bus fares can now be offered at a more subsidised rate which helps students save money.
“This is especially significant during this festive season when many are prioritising essential expenses. We are proud that this initiative supports not just their mobility but also their financial welfare.” Chief Executive Officer, Ogata, Henry Eke, stated.
“We value the trust MoMo Payment Service Bank Limited has placed in us, and we look forward to deepening this partnership as we continue providing sustainable, affordable, and student-centred transport solutions on campus.”
This helps lower emissions, contributing to a cleaner, quieter campus environment while also promoting environmental sustainability.
Invasion competition
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) hosted a presentation ceremony as the winner of the MTN Campus Invasion competition formally received his brand-new 2025 Alsvin Mikano car, accompanied by university executives.
The official handover was conducted by the Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, who commended MTN Nigeria for its sustained commitment to youth empowerment and educational development across the country.
The recipient, Babatunde Ayomide Emmanuel, a 100 Level UNILAG student of Industrial Mathematics, winner of the 35 million brand new Alsvin Mikano car, was celebrated during the meeting with the Vice-Chancellor.
The competition, which was a core feature of the recent tech giant Campus Invasion programme, sought to reward customer engagement and loyalty among the student body.
During the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor emphasised the importance of responsible corporate citizenship. “It is truly gratifying to witness a private sector entity not only providing essential services but also directly investing in the future of our students,” the Vice-Chancellor stated. “This vehicle represents a significant start for the young recipient.”
Babatunde expressed his gratitude, saying: “I am deeply honoured and genuinely grateful to MTN Nigeria for this extraordinary gift. Receiving the keys with my parent here from the Vice-Chancellor today marks a momentous occasion that I will never forget.
“This car is a pivotal asset for my future endeavours, and I thank everyone involved.”
